The Department of History, The IIS University, Jaipur is organizing a two day ICHR sponsored National Conference on (Re)Visiting History, Nation and Culture through Autobiography, Biography and Memoirs on 12-13 January 2018.
The Conference seeks to contest and debate the conventional patterns of reading these non-conventional literary sources which are products of specific socio-cultural practices, and also provide space to the writer to exercise their own subjectivity. It will also focus on the critical question whether such writings that are products of memory, feelings and emotions, can be read as historically significant texts in the light of new literary and cultural theories. The proposed Conference is not simply about reading autobiography, biography and memoirs as life narratives. Rather, the Conference aspires to discuss various ideas in these texts, where an individual's perspective acquires social, cultural and political value in capturing the history of a nation. We invite young researchers and academicians from various disciplines to debate on new trends, challenges and modern approaches in reading these narratives, which trace stories of the formation of a nation through depiction of significant events in the lives of some people.
